710 Camera & Editing with Vegas

Any one editing 710 with Sony Vegas. Give me pros & cons of editing with Vegas. Also Pros & Cons of camera. Strongly looking @ 710 for outdoor tv show filming. Need a shoulder mount. All your views greatly appreciated!

Re: 710 Camera & Editing with Vegas

A good friend of mine uses a 700 and edits with Vegas. He drops in the MXF files and edits away. I don't know his entire workflow but he says he has no problems using the MXF.
I'll see if I can get ahold of him and get his workflow but he travels alot so it's hit and miss getting him.
Frankly, if I did more corporate work, like I used to, I'd be up for a 7XX series myself. I loved the 100-200 series and have used a 700 for a shoot here and there and really liked it.

Re: 710 Camera & Editing with Vegas

My work department has a 700 and a pair of 750s and I use Vegas Pro 10 to do my editing.
I use XDCAM Explorer to re-wrap the MP4 footage to MXF which Vegas loves.
I've shot a mixture of SD and HD footage and haven't had any problems in Vegas.
My only complaint about these cameras is that the 1/3" sensors are noisier in low light situations than the footage I used to get with our JVC DV-550Us (1/2" CCD).
I had friends warn me that HD was more critical to focus with but the 4.3" flip-out LCD viewfinder along with the "Focus Assist" feature makes this a non-issue.
The Anton-Bauer battery system (battery and charger/AC Adapter) that is currently free with this camera is a great addition and makes hand-holding it a lot easier as it balances it nicely.
I get almost 4 hr. continuous run time with it.

I kept saying MXF when I meant to say MP4. There. I got that off my chest. I had been talking to someone else about MXF and got carried away. Sorry.

It's OK Don.
We won't take away your Fisher Price camcorder :)

I wish I had 1. I'd give to the 3 year old grand-daughter. She could be the next (fill in name here)

Thanks guys for the response. Really like the looks of the 710. Also would be going with Vegas Pro 10. Don't have time for a new learning curve. Would appreciate any other info you guys can pass along. Visit our website: www.christiananglertv.com

Re: 710 Camera & Editing with Vegas

I have used the HM700 (mp4 files) on Sony Vegas 10 for over a year now with no problems at all.
Does require a quad core to be a bit nimble or an i7 to race through.

It does not detect the files automatically on the JVC SDHC card for some reason, no issues with my GH1 straight there.

The editing takes longer then the AVI files from the DV camera (JVC5000), a 2 hour video took about 2 hours in DV and now takes about 5 with mp4 (quad core)
