GY-HM600 and data rate
 

I bought a GY-HM600 and so far I love it but I have a question. I bought 2 64 gig transend class 10 cards rated at 20 mbps. I run them in redundant mode. What is the highest data rate that I can shoot at? I have no interest in shooting at 50 mbps but id like to use 35 can I do that with the these cards or do I need super fast ones?

Card run at 20Mb and camera shoot in mb.So, in theory is good but SAFE is to shoot with a card with 45MB/S.
1Byte is 8 bits.

Just to clarify what David said, SD cards are usually rated in megabytes per second, whereas video data rates are usually specified in megabits per second, which is needs to be divided by 8 to be equal to the card rating.

So, in theory, your 20MB/s card should to up to 160Mb/s, but this is never the case. SD cards can not normally sustain their maximum data rate for long, and the video rate specified is an average, which can periodically go above the stated rate. There is also some overhead for handling the file system.

Anyway, you should be able to shoot 50Mb/s video without any problems, but to be sure, can you tell me the exact model of the cards.

ahhh thanks for the education guys! I should have noticed that. They are Transend SDXC class 10s rated at 30 megs per second. They should be fine at 35 mbps.

I use Sandisk 30MB/s cards and they're fine for 50mbps recording. I've even used them for 100mbps recording on another camera with no issues.

For what it's worth, I've used a pair of 64GB Transcend SDXC class 10 (30MB/s) cards for some time now without any apparent problems, shooting at 35mbps.

They are quite a bit cheaper than the Sandisk cards, but in my experience, work just as well.
