Wide conversion lens

Hi Folks,

I just got the JVC GL-VO746UE wide conversion lens and need advice -- Should it be screwed onto the UV filter that I have or would be better to take off the filter and screw on conversion lens directly to the camera lens?

(the thread is so thin that I wouldn't go covering demonstrations and protests where there'll be lots of running around avoiding cops and protesters with the lens on -- one slight hit even and that lens will fly off!)

Hi Shuf,

I beg to differ. I have that wide adapter lens and it lives on my HM100 permanently. The combo has been bashed about and lies face down in a shoulder bag out and about every day. Not a problem. I don't use filters with the HM100, just a large lens hood - the adapter flares like mad pointing anywhere near the sun. I modified one of these to fit directly onto the adapter:

I have the Schneider .65x wide angle converter, and it stays on my HM100 lens pretty much the entire time. It's been dragged around the deserts and mountains of California in the back of my truck, it's been used in crowded street scenes and nightclubs, and it's been strapped to the top of my truck while taking POV shots on really bad mining trails, and it's never come off or damaged the lens's thread.

But yes, the first time I looked at the lens's front threads, I wondered whether it'd be up to it or not. Turns out it is, at least for me...
