nice shots! Many shots reminds me of the Japan segment from Baraka! Did you have any problems with filming with such "pro" looking equipment out in public? How were you able to film time lapse next to the subway train? :) Heck, I don't even know if the authorities there would care about such things..

The 360 pan of the street intersection before the shot of the homeless guy - It would have been kick ass if you did the entire pan once in day light and again at night and then fade from day to night within one pan.. but I guess you'd have to camp out there for hours to capture that shot.

One thought on the music though.. IMO, the song is very identifiable as from Lost in Translation where it was also edited to shots of Japan. For me personally, I never like to use easily identifiable music especially if it was used in the same context.

the music is utter coincidence. i saw the film when it first came out and never since.

Am an air fan and a friend of mine used that track a couple of weeks ago for a trailer he did so I listened to it again, like the name giving me a nice play on titles and that was it!

Simply AWESOME Philip! Are you familiar with Ron Fricke? He made some AMAZING wordless films such as "Chronos" and "Koyanisquatsi" (shooter only for that) and of course "Baraka" shot in 70mm. This feels very much like sections of Baraka, especially with the timelapse pans and the shots of the homeless people. Nice blend of Extreme and Ultimate, to be honest on my computer screen, it was hard to see a difference.

recently discovered koyaanasqatsi and started watching baraka today after was told to.

Funny watching it as there are some of the places I shot in there. Would love to shoot a film like that. Be a dream! In the meantime will do my own little mini versions!

Hey Phil, I'm still interested in knowing your experience with shooting with such substantial equipment on a busy Tokyo street and underground in the subway. Did you have to get a permit? Shot some footage inside a Bus? WOW!

Definitely some of your best work, Phil. The 3rd segment with the homeless people was very moving.

Also think that I liked the grading in this most of all your pieces. Absolutely stunning.

Just take all your mini versions, put them together and voila! You'll have it done! Of course music clearance will be a bitch if you want to release it. :)
