Panasonic DV Tapes
Just wondeirng what people s thoughts are on these...?
ive had maybe 99% success with them, but i recently received a "bad batch" as i got quite afew artifacts... on a number of tapes.. but im not too sure whether it was the tapes or the heads, as i was in a dusty environment... what are your experience with the Pana Tapes? im using teh 60min Linear Plus range.. i tried teh 80 minutes tapes but theyre too expensive for waht they are.. on top of that, Pana apparently dont recommend their use... as theyre heavier and add wear on the heads and spools... Any thoughts? |
I used nothing but Pana tapes in my first MX. No problems. Then it went to an in law. My other cams use Fuji. Fuji has been kind to me over the years, but yesterday I had to clean my heads because of moisture. I was shooting in light rain. (I think my cam is all dried out now.)
I tried to use my spankin' "bran'-new" Pana head cleaner yesterday. And it wouldn't work! I tried several times! So I guess I got a bad Pana cleaning tape! Anyway, my old JVC cleaning tape worked just fine. I should go out and pick myself up a Fuji cleaning tape to keep in my bag. Pana, JVC, Bhaaa. |
FWIW, I've always used Panasonic tapes (currently thee PQ and MQ series) and have never had a problem with them.

I've been looking at the Panny AY-DVM63MQ as they use a dry tape lubricant and are 63 minute tapes.
I don't know about mixing the MX and PX models as I believe the PX uses a wet lubricant and a lot of people (myself included) believe that this can lead to clogged heads. Here is some good thread on DV tapes over at DV.com forums. http://www.dv.com/forums/showReplies...2&tid=87800011 |
I have always used the Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ , and have never had any problems with them.

At Walmarts website, they have 5 Panasonic tapes for $19.88, and I just got back from the store, hoping to find them in there, but all they had was 1 tape for $8, and a 2 pack (80 min and 60 min tape) for $14.....I laughed at that. When I asked this kid working there about the tapes, after I said "5 tapes for $20", he started giggling, then I started laughing sarcasticly very loud, because I thought that kid was a moron. Anyway, looks like i'll be wasting my money on 2 Fuji tapes at Circuitcity for $16.

I use Pana PQ both 63 and 83, and have never had a problem due to a tape. Operator, yes; camera, yes; tape, no.
Don |
"Operator, yes; camera, yes; tape, no"
My camera is much better than me... Operator, yes; camera, no; tape, no. Doh! |
Keith,
I thought about the 1 camera error and you know what, it WAS operator error. So Camera and Tape ZERO- Operator- ONE! I WIN-I WIN! Don :) |
I use Panasonic MQ tapes exclusively. Good schtuff

After two or three boxes of Panny tapes, I finally had one bad tape. That's better than any other tape I have used. However, I am not using Sony, Fuji, Maxell as much as I use Panny.
