Sony DSR-11 will not shut off and is locked up
 

My Sony DSR-11 will not shut off and is completely locked up. All that seems to work is the fan and the power light, which is green.

There is no tape inside. I have tried reset and unplugging the deck.

There is no analog video output or a firewire signal going to my system.

It has very low hours on it and has never had any issues at all.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’m sure I will need to send it in for repair.

I am just really curious as to what this problem is and how much it’s going to cost me.

The green light is on? Even after you pull the plug, wait a minute and plug it back in? That is unusual. I've never experienced that sort of failure, I've had mine for going on three years. No problems. It will still run it's fan when it has power running through it ... sometimes not always. But nothing like what you've described.

Sounds like a repair trip. If it's low hours, is it still in warranty?

It is strange. I've had it 3-4 years, but I use it roughly 4-6 hours per month.
Until this, it has been trouble free.

Green light and complete lock up all of the time. I even let it sit unplugged overnight in a different room to see if temp changed anything.

I've also kept it plugged through a UPS to avoid this kind of BS.

Does the remote control do anything?

Perhaps a fuse has blown. If you are lucky, it would be a traditional fuse that you can replace. Since it is out of warranty, you might as well open the unit and look for any fuses.

(I had my DSR-11's power supply completely die on me for no obvious reason - luckily I had a spare (a long story)).

I haven’t seen the remote in a long time. I’ve only controlled it with my software.

The unit is getting power but there is no video signal coming out of it.

I opened it and looked around for anything burnt. There was no "fried circuit board" stench either… (which is a bouquet reminiscent of ass, the 4th of July, and empty wallet.)

Hopefully it’s not something too serious.

I've just looked in mine. Near the power supply socket are three small fuses (F101, F102, F103). Unfortunately they are micro surface mount and soldered directly to the PCB. There may be others elsewhere.

It is not uncommon for a power LED to light up while other parts of the device are behind a fuse.

I had this experience with my PDX-10.

It is possible to diagnose a blown fuse of this type simply with a multimeter though the compact design of the DSR-11 makes it tricky.
