Samuel,

I'm in California, so I'm unable to help. But it SOUNDS like you're looking for a 'telecine projector' - and you state 8mm.

Actual transfer projectors can be quite expensive - you can google MOVIESTUFF - they manufacture them. But before you hunt one down to borrow, make sure of the film format you are looking to transfer. A lot of people refer to SUPER 8 as '8 millimeter' - it's a different format - so make sure you really do have 8mm film, and that you are clear in your search for a transfer machine/projector.

You could of course, look for someone local who does this service for a fee. Likely you'll be able to find someone. It's FAR more likely that you'll find someone, then they will loan you their rather expensive equipment.

Barring those two solutions - you MIGHT be able to find a variable speed projector and do a 'poor man's telecine' - essentially aiming the projector at a surface and taping off of it. This can yield terrible to 'fair' results. Do a search on this forum for threads that discuss the methods for yielding optimum results.

Good luck

Depends how much footage you have to convert. If you are on a tight budget then DIY with a variable speed projector with 3 blade shutter will probably suffice.

I run my own cinefilm transfer service but would be pleased to advise if you want to build your own set-up. I don't think you'll be able to hire a telecine machine anywhere in the UK but of course I may be proved wrong!
Good Luck
Harley
