Mini DV Tapes "paradox"

Hello everyone :)
Could someone please explain to me different between following MDV tapes:

Panasonic: AY-DVM60XJ
AY-DVM63MQ
AY-DVM60EJ

JVC: M-DV63Pro
M-DV60ME

OK, I do know that XJ and 63MQ in Panasonic & 63Pro in JVC are Professional grade tapes. However I can’t find anywhere information about differences between those tapes… what make them so special? Will I see better performance of my recording videos – sound & video? Did those “pro” tapes will last longer – usage times & storage time?

I hear that practically all tapes are made by one company and it is no different between them…. I do not believe that…. Please put some light on those questions.

I don't know. Why don't you just go with Fuji?

Don Bloom February 23rd, 2004 06:53 AM

Paul,
The tapes are not made by one manufacturer but the best thing you could do is run a search thru this forum for info on those tapes. There are probably 100's of posts regarding most of what you're asking.

Thank you Frank & Don,

I'm in Canada and from Fuji I can get only basic tape not a PRO.
Regarding search this forum... hmmm... nobody post anything about Pana XJ, looks to me that XJ is for Canadian market equivalent to PQ (I think it is Pro Quality?) or maybe MQ (Master Quality?)in USA.

Any way THANK YOU :):):)

Don't let the word, "pro," confuse you.

Paul Krakowiak February 23rd, 2004 10:23 PM

I’m more confused then ever

Frank,

I checked dvfrek.com and posted links on that web site, I read most 99% posted messages on this forum and I’m more confused then ever!!!!

I don’t know but I think I will be use Panasonic AY-DVM60XJ unless someone will tell me that Sony tapes are better (wet system)

Frank Granovski February 24th, 2004 03:05 AM

Why don't you just take my advice about Fuji miniDV tape. That's what a lot of "pro's" use.

Paul Krakowiak February 25th, 2004 11:18 AM

never ending story…

Frank,

I don’t know what to tell you… I think two words will do: Thank You.

However I call couple TV Stations, two professional movie makers and several “PRO” Video Photographers and 75% recommended Panasonic, 15% Sony and 10% Fuji.

I guess it will be never ending story…

Any way, thank you very much for advice.

Frank Granovski February 25th, 2004 02:35 PM

According to Pana tech last year, Fuji was making the higher end tapes for Pana. 15% Sony? for miniDV or DVCAM?

Paul Krakowiak February 25th, 2004 02:45 PM

15% for Sony miniDV...

Do you have any extra info that Fuji made or making tapes for Pana?

Mark A. Foley February 26th, 2004 06:32 AM

I for one, given the frustrations of using Sony tapes with my XL1s would never recommened them. Switched to Pannies(Fuji) and very happy camper now...:-)

Frank Granovski February 26th, 2004 03:22 PM

Paul, That's what I've read here and there, and a Pana tech mentioned this as well (they have made tape for them). I don't know which Pana model tape Fuji has made nor when. However, this is interesting: I have recieved a few official Pana cam pictures from Pana Japan at times, and one of these pictures had a Fuji tape sitting right next the cam. Oops!

Paul Krakowiak February 26th, 2004 05:00 PM

He... He... He... Too bad for Pana, THANK YOU for all information :)
