what is the technical difference beween a Large DV & a Large DVCAM tape from SONY they look much the same apart from the duration each runs for. Can we use these tape for Dv & DVCAM based camcorders.

The only difference between DV and DVCAM is the speed at which the tape is transported during recording. You can look at it this way – DVCAM is ultra SP (short play) DV.

The Tapes used by both systems are the same. A 60-minute tape for DV lasts only around 40 minutes when run in DVCAM.

The answer is yes. But do a test to be sure.

Well thanks for your input. I was casually discussing the ame idea of using cheaper DVCAM 184 tapes in place of Panasonic Large DV tapes with some of the guys from Panasonic India. and they had a strange story to narrate about the different coating or lubricant being used for DV & DVCAM tapes. If a DVCAM tape is used for a DV Camcorder essentially Large Tape like DVC200 camera then the tape shall be corroding the head...I some how didnt liked this story...so i landed on this forum with this querry.

I tried using Large DVCAM 184 tape today and saw it records perfectally in DV mode of DVC200 and last 33 longer than DVCAM stuff cox of speed diff it ran for 277 minuts. I guess Panny guys here didnt liked this very much co the DVCAM 184 is cheaper and readily available than Panasonic Large DV 276 mins tape.Point to be noted that the Panny AJDV200 is just a Lrge DV based DV camera.

BTW are you aware of the festivities of HOLI !. Yes indeed it was great as ever cox it was my first holi with my 9months baby girl u know it really excitng. (Sorry bt this of the track views beong spilled on this techii forum,...But emotion do fall out sometimes...)

DVCAM Tapes ware heads down?
 

It sounds to me like someone has been trying to sell you some BS as far as the head being worn by tapes labeled specifically for DVCAM. But I am not a Tape specialist – you should try posting the thread again with a title like "DVCAM Tapes ware heads down?". Maybe that will attract one of the experts on the subject out there.

Off topic- Yes I witnessed HOLI about five years ago in New Deli. Very funny and fun. I don’t know anything about the holidays background but it’s definitely colorful. I loved seeing the holy white cows walking around with colors splashed all over them. And the men in there white saris squirting each other full with colored liquids.
