Tapes causing you a problem if recorded in someone else's Gear?
 

Hi all,

Currently there is a lot of information out there about different MiniDV tape brands and the problems that may arise when various tape brands are being used in cameras and etc. The problem is due to these different brands using different lubricant types (wet or dry), as is the reported case with Panasonic and Sony tapes.

Now being fortunate to know this and being quite careful with my XM2 and my other gear regarding this, I wonder if the following may be a problem...

Always using new tape stock (Panasonic in my case), say I need to record something in someone else's recorder (or camera for that matter), is it possible for the tape to become contaminated from that person's recorder... if they for example use and or mix different tape brands in their recorder?

Basically what I'm trying to say is... could the tape cause a problem in my system if it's been or has rolled through someone else's "possibly dirty" heads?

What are your thoughts?

As reported elsewhere, the mixing of brands "problem" is unfounded.

Run your tapes in anyone elses machine. TV stations and production companies have multiple machines all over the place and have no concern with this.

If someone elses machine has dirty heads then it's because they weren't cleaned and may build up enough gunk to scratch yours.
