DSR-40 Playback/Record Problems...

This is just positively scary. I have been remastering BetaCam SP Edit masters onto DV-CAM when I have Two Part BetaCam SP masters.

I was shocked to discover that the DSR-40 has a color intensity shift and hue shift made up of three distinct looks. In other words, simply rewinding the DV-CAM tape and replaying it and the color, hue or color instensity shifts!

When I try and assemble edit the Part II BetaCam SP onto the DV-CAM, I can see a distinct color and hue shift. I recently had to make FIVE ATTEMPTS to get the assemble edit to not shift.

The DSR-40 color and hue shifting might be tape tension related, but I found this quirk extremely awful. Has anyone else encontered this problem and what actually was the fix?

Retrying the edit five times was not that big of a deal, what was a big deal was having to wait an hour for the part II BetaCam Sp tape to finish, then reviewing the DV-CAM assemble edit and seeing the color shift. My edit retrys were over an hour apart because I could not tell if the color had shifted until I actually played back the edit an hour later. I spent over 6 hours just to successfully make a successful assemble edit on the DV-CAM deck that did not have a color, hue or brightness shift from what had previously been recorded.
