Just found a 10 pack of tapes
 

Hey I was wondering what everyones opinions are one this. I have currently been using sony premiums and just found a 10 pack of jvc tapes in my parents closet, would it really be that bad to mix tapes just this once. I'm really cheap but I have read things about this on her and I am just not sure how i really feel on the subject.

Yes but are they new or do they have something valuable on 'em?

What type of JVC tapes are they and what are you doing in your parents closet anyhow.

Mixing tape brands should cause you no problems according to this article from Sony.

Let me get back up on my soapbox...

Head clogs from mixing tapes are real. This is a constant and ongoing issue for me whenever I allow client supplied tapes into my edit bay. JVC and Sony, based on my REAL WORLD experience are probably the two WORST tape formulations to mix. Again, based on REAL WORLD experience. If you have a head cleaning cassette already to deal with the nearly inevitable head clog that will come from MIXING these tapes, go ahead and clean your heads after. If you don't regularly clean your heads, I'd advise to stay away from this as you won't be saving any money in the long run.

Please note that this is different from folks who have had luck in STICKING WITH one brand/formulation of tape after using another.

Addendum: my OPINION is that the position put forward in that Sony position paper is bunk. I clean my heads every 20 or so hours, not after hundreds, and I had a head clog on my deck this week after running 8 Panasonic branded DV tapes through my VTR. Quick clean of the heads and it was gone but given the recognition that overly aggressive head cleaning is hard on heads, this is a less that perfect scenario.

Allan technically my dad just found them and gave them to me, and yes they are brand new. Thanks for the article kevin this is the only thing i have seen where a company actually said go for it, but people like shaun is what is making me scared to do so. maybe ill just sell those tapes to my friend and buy some of my brand, because i know he doesn't care.
