Deck drum hours?

Hi guys,

What would you think about 4000 hrs on a Sony DSR-45AP deck? Would that be worthwhile picking up, depending on price?

I know it's hard to say, but is it likely that it will be junk at those hours?

Regards,
Lenny

Re: Deck drum hours?

Just trying to find out if that is standby hours, or what the actual drum hours are.

Re: Deck drum hours?

How do you know it's 4K hrs? Did the seller tell you? Have you seen this deck?

Here's my take, first of all 'standby hrs' wouldn't tally as the transport is not in motion.

Its been discontinued so it sounds like it might be being sold by a TV outlet or prod company. Did they buy it new? Has it been regularly maintained,
do they offer a service history?

Imo 4K hrs is not a lot for a pro rig like this, providing it wasn't their only deck and has been looked after by pros. The bigger the outfit selling it, the better.

Can you try it out, rec/play a tape or two? Any guarantee with it? Can you service it? Get parts?

All this comes into it, good luck.

Cheers.

Re: Deck drum hours?

Thanks for that, the deal fell through.

I've picked up a DSR-40 from eBay cheaply, will see how it goes.

Cheers,
Lenny
