Question about Tape Decks vs. Cameras

Relatively simply question. Right now I've got an Older ZR45 and a GL2. I don't wish to use my GL2 to upload the tape (don't wish to wear the tapeheads down), and would prefer to use the ZR45 assuming the quality would be the same.

From what I've heard it shouldn't be an issue, just verifying though that the "quality of the transfer from the ZR45 will be the same as transferring from any other device?".

I'd assume so, but figure I should give it a go before I go pick up the necessary equipment to get my ZR back in working order.

Without a doubt this is the single most frequently asked question on this forum.

The quality of the transfer from the ZR45 will be the same as transferring from any other device.

Sorry Chris, I was expecting that would be the case, but a quick look down the frontpage didn't yield anything.

Thanks, Appreciate it.

A general note: it seems that non-HDV cameras cannot be used in capturing HDV footage. So I can't take a Mini-DV tape that has my Sony HVR-A1U footage on it (in HDV mode) and use a Panasonic DVX-100 during capturing.

That's right, Alex. If the tape has HDV recorded to it, then you'll need an HDV camcorder (or deck) to play it.
