Need to get Sony deck fixed

I've got a Sony GV-D300 deck that I use to transfer footage from my old XL-1 and it is starting give me fits. When transfering the footage the playback looks waving and starts to show large single colored pixels.
Sorry about the elementary description but I don't know the technical terms for what I'm getting.

...........................anyway can anyone recommend a good repair shop to send this deck and maybe help me out on the proper description on what I'm getting on playback?

Cheers,
D

That's what I thought also. So I ran a head cleaning tape through a couple of times with no improvement.

Or it could be an alignment problem in the tape track.

The Sony service centers usually charge a flat rate fee, which is usually pretty high. Another possibility is Armatos ((http://www.armatosvideo.com/) in NYC. They're authorized for Sony sales & warranty service, and charge only based on the actual job, not one-price-fits-all.

My Sony VX2100 had a problem earlier this year. The Sony center had a flat rate of about $600 to fix & ship; I sent it to Armatos and they fixed & shipped it for less than $200, round-trip in a week. Do a general search here at DVI and you'll see other comments about them.

Tom,

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

I'll give Armatos a shout.

Mike Luna of Lunatek is a Sony repair specialist. Recommended to me by a pro who is very finicky about his equipment servicing.
(323) 874-4511 in the LA area. Clean all and checkup is about $100
(+ shipping, most likely).
Hope this helps.

I've always been happy with http://www.videotech.com/ in Seattle.

funny, i have the same problem with that machine and my XL1. I think it is the XL1, not the sony deck because older tapes shot on my GL1 works fine. Are you sure it's the decK?
