Comparing Three POV Cameras

I just compared three HD POV cameras. My interest is in-car videography. I tried this with a regular Canon Camcorder on a Fat Gecko Camera Mount and found the results way too jittery.

I compared the GoPro HD Hero, Contour HD GPS, and Drift Innovations HD170 Stealth. They all have strong and weak points.

The GoPro is widely used but does not have an internal LCD for playback and is cryptic to operate, according to local users.

The Contour has a narrower field than the GoPro or Drift but is small and light, and the lens rotates about 180 degree. The company claims a Smartphone app is coming for remote viewing and start/stop.

The HD170 Stealth rotates 310 degrees so it can be suspended in a mount. It also has a built in LCD for viewing plus a wireless RF remote. It's view angle is 170 deg at 720P and 127 deg at 1080P.

I chose the Stealth. The Contour was the runner up.
