ReplayXD ProLens 37MM Adapter Lens Kit?
 

I see this mentioned in their camera spiel but no references are forthcoming after that. Anybody out there have an idea as to what that's about? I'm looking at these POV cameras as an option to tacklng a particualr problem I have and to expand my toolkit. Th GoPro seems to have variable focal lengths, would this kit offer similar capabilities?

Also, has anyone compared the high bitrate setting of 1080p with a decent camcorder/hddslr? While I'm pretty sure that a Sony F3 or Red Epic will look marginally better ;-), does this footage intercut reasonably well with your decent prosumer and above footage?

There's quite a few accessories that I have discussed with them that are supposed to be coming. Lenses would be cool...I'm waiting for a version of the back cap that an hdmi cable could pass through and be locked into place. We will see!

As far as the footage, even in bright light it's still noisy compared to even a consumer HD camcorder. I use Magic Bullet's DeNoiser and have gotten very useable results. Did a music video where I cut the Replay with a 5D, 7D and XF300. Worked out pretty well. The color and exposure are better IMHO than the GoPro and Contour and the ability to change a bunch of parameters via the text file is pretty cool.

Thanks for the info. Some of the online clips for these cameras looks quite nice. I'm thinking that those clips were well processed in post as well. It would also be nice to find out how much difference (or not) a direct HDMI out recording would make.

recording with HDMI is not a huge difference, just easier to work with the files although you probably need to de-interlace it. The image is still the regular processed smoothed images that are ready for the compression & not the sharp real colour images you see if you take a Jpeg with it, I find the GoPro footage incredibly tough to edit on a PC; With a HDMI recorder your going to have at least something that you can edit & render out without losing much in the way of quality. With the h264 it will fall to bits fast if your aiming for a low bit rate.

I did a test recording the hdmi out vs onto the card and there was a noticeable difference.
Hdmi went to my Matrox recorded directly to pro res. no need to deinterlace as the camera out is progressive.
I then took the card and converted the footage to pro res and did a side by side. biggest difference is the color. The. Noise is still there so actually the hdmi is a bit of a let down as I would ha e expects less. For the extra hassle of having a separate recorder, it's not worth it.
