Boompole to monopod

Anyone try converting a sturdy boompole into a monopod? I'm thinking about doing this with my gitzo pole when it's not being used for audio. Thoughts?

A stick is a stick

Monopods are generally have an inverted design as compared to boom poles--that is, the larger diameter tubes are closest to the camera. However, I don't see why a boom pole couldn't double as a monopod if that's all you've got.

This may sound silly, but as inexpensive as monopods are, why not just buy one rather than screwing up a perfectly good boom?
