Suggestions for developing video style
 

Now that I have my HD1, I'm on to trying to make the most of it. Can anyone suggest websites and/or books that teach people to make professional looking videos? I figure if I drop a G for a camera, the least I can do is drop another few bucks to get the most out of it. :)

I normally try to post an option along with my questions, but in this case, I'm truely a novice. I've seen books and websites that help people develop a style, but not enough to recommend any as exceptional.

USA Cable network calling for "video pod" submissions of mini movies of about 5 mins. The site includes good basic tutorials on getting started with mini-documentary-style production.

I think you'll find so much info available for free, you'll find better things to spend your money on! Start with good photographic composition, minimize panning and zooming, and use a tripod every time you can.

Watch what the pros do in films and TV - see what's good and bad. The downside is that you'll never again be able to just "enjoy" the experience of watching a movie or TV.

I see little written about it, but I think production techniques should be a little different for bigger screen HDTV. Look at an Imax movie. Wide, stable shots of longer duration - there's more detail to see, so more time to absorb it. Watch - and learn! Enjoy!
