How is DIY fixing of black screen lens assembly going. at DVinfo.net

I couldn't find the original thread, but somebody had a service manual, and somebody was thinking about trying to fix the black screen lens assembly problem.

How has this gone, and has anybody else considered doing something with the manual?

I am interested in buying a secondhand unit and repairing it, if anybody has figured it out.
