Minimum sd card speed for use with HD2

Hi all, I bought a Hd1 last week but returned it when I realised that the HD2 was about to be released (In the UK).

The HD1 came with a 2gb sd card rated at 50x which I assumed would be fast enough as it came bundled with the camera, I then bought a 4gb 60x card from mobymemory that I tried in the cam and it seemed to work ok. I did notice the odd dropped frame here and there but put this down to my pc not being powerful enough to play the footage correctly (seems to play ok on the camera)

Yesterday I was doing a bit of reading up on sd card speeds and downloaded a program to test the speed of my cards, I had to test the cards through the camera over usb and the results I got were slightly confusing, according to the site I visited a 60x rated sd card should transfer at roughly 9MB per second but my cards were only managing about 1.2MB per second, to my mind this is a bit too close for comfort to the max bit rate that the camera uses in HD mode. I notice that most people on here seem to be using 150x cards in their HD1/HD2 , are the cards I bought fast enough or do I need to bin them and buy something faster.

TIA.

Hi Darren I have an old 1GB card and it works in the HD2 O/K but I normally use a Secure Digital High Capacity (SD-HC) Memory Card - 4GB - High Speed Class 4 (118x) from 7day Shop which is priced at £17.99+delivery. Beware of the speed check programs as they only give you the speed between devices which can be very deceiving and not the speed the camera driver writes to the card.

My 150x Transcend 4GB cards seem fine. When I looked at the HD2's spec for SDHC cards, it quoted a requirement for Class II cards, nothing better. Experimentally I bought a class II Transcend SDHC 8GB card for my HD1 (with the firmware upgrade installed). That also seems to work fine.

Cheers for the info, my HD2 should be arriving today so I'll give it a good test and post the results.

Is there any difference in the interclip delay between the faster and slower SDHC cards?
