HD or SD?
 

Hi All.
If you are shooting a video and you know that it will end up on the web and not on a DVD are u using SD or HD?

HD SHQ always, downres later.

what about the frame ratio?
in HD it`s 16:9 and in SD it`s 4:3.
when i shoot in HD and want to upload to the web the frame ratio is still 16:9 even if i downrate the resolution.

SD can be 16:9 as well. DVD's are no problem, the web is no problem you just choose what size you'd like, IE 640x360.

Always shoot HD
 

You always want to shoot in HD on an HD Camera. You can always downconvert later.

You want to shoot in HD so can future-proof it.

I find that shooting in HD is better a lot clearer and want to keep doing so especially. I would recommend Xacti's HD to anyone who as enough memory on their SD(HC) card(s) and processor power /RAM in their computer. However,

This is a good question, and the people below do not seem to have responded to it (perhaps because they saw it as being too trivial).

I think that if we shoot in SD and want to keep the same aspect (frame) ratio then we have to use an event pan/crop tool such as available in Sony Vegas to crop the sides off the image.

I think that setting the height and width to 980 by 720, and the X and Y center 640 and 360 respectively in the event pan crop tool seems to make the HD image (kindly provided by Ken English on these forums

) fit the SD preview window in the bottom right.

Please would the experts not despair of us, and tell Amir Chen and I whether this is the right way to do it. I would really like to know the best way.

I see that I can save the crop by naming it and then pressing the little floppy disk mark. I have updated the image above to show folks how to do it.

Ah, I now see that there is a crop present prepared called "4:3 Standard TV aspect ratio" dur. It uses height and width to 960 by 720, and the X and Y center 640 and 360 respectively, but I find that my 980 works better and gets rid of the thin black lines at the end. This is the view when I use the preset provided in Sony Vegas, and with the problem, as I see it, circled in red
