Rumour has reached me of this announcement. Whether it will be anything video related is anyone's guess.

Phil, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Are you going to try the 5DmkII with Nikon adapters?

how good will it be with an adaptor?

Same as using Nikon lenses on a Nikon SLR, except no AF (no loss) and stopped down metering only (ie aperture closes as you stop it down) which is what you want for video. I believe that the 5DmkII will be a far far easier to use as a video camera using Nikon, Leica or Contax lenses than when using Canon EF lenses. With a Canon lens on the 5DmkII after you lock exposure you are done with aperture adjustment, it can't be done. With a manual lens (or Nikon af lens with aperture ring) you can continue to adjust aperture with the shutter speed and ISO locked because the camera has no way to adjust it. This is the same as the way manual lenses work on a Nikon D90.

The second major problem with the 5DmkII video is also partially overcome by using adapted lenses. The 5DmkII will try to use higher shutter speeds automatically when in bright light at wide aperture. My plan is to use a Vari ND filter Singh-Ray Filters: Vari-ND Variable Neutral Density Filter to force the camera to give me the slowest shutter speed ( probably a 30th in video ), and also a low ISO. Then I can quickly dial in the ND and open up the lens aperture at the same time to give me the effects I want in bright conditions.

You can't do any of this with a Canon EF lens.

I need to confirm all this when I get my hands on a production 5DmkII but so far everyone I know seems to believe this will work.

I think for my purposes a 5DmkII, Nikon lenses and a Vari ND filter might be the ideal solution for replacing my Brevis. I'll continue to use the EX3 and EX1 for more normal stuff and hope that Nikon bring out a 5DmkII beater at some point in the future.

NikonRumors.com has been following all the developments for quite a while.
They've got their own sources, but they also pull good info. from other insiders and try to put the pieces together.
Currently, they're anticipating a new high end DSLR.
Could be D3x or D4, something high end for professional use.
There's also strong evidence of a completely new line of pro medium format cameras from Nikon.
Labeled under the MX format. Leaving Nikon with 3 lines - DX, FX, and MX.
But of course, for now, it is all rumors.

Yeah, I wondered how you afforded all your fancy gear. :P
But I am in the same boat, Zeiss ZF all the way.
