Nikon D750 worth it over D5500 for Video

Greetings all,

I have gotten rid of my JVC JYHD and am looking to replace my Nikon D7000 for video. I would prefer to stay with Nikon as I have a lot of Nikon Lenses.

I was looking at and thinking about the D750 but most of my lenses are DX. Now Nikon has come out with the D5500 and it looks amazing. Especially with a Ninja to record the HDMI output in 422.

What do you think, is the D750 worth the extra money and down grading of the image with my DX lenses? Or should I just buy the D5500 and have some left over money to do other more meaningful things with?

Thank you very much in advance for your thoughts.

I have the D750, and it is worth every penny. You have the option to shoot with full frame as well as DX, both for video and stills. The video quality is outstanding.

I got the D750 24-120 F4 kit for video and it works pretty good.

I'll have to say, focus performance is lacking compared to my Nikon V1, but that's not really a fair comparison because the V1 is mirrorless.

I shot using the D750 flat profile and was able to do a fair amount of tweaking to the colors in post without it breaking up.

The D750 will now be my new beauty cam for weddings, as it's great for that. But, not great for ceremony processional type work.

hi similar boat here. (still have my JVC PRO HD110 and lots of Nikon glass) I picked up a Nikon D5200 for fun recently and darned if the video wasn't pretty good. So picked up an Atomos Ninja Blade... The two do not work together at 23.98/24p. 30p only or 59.98i. I went to a brick and mortar store. Same issue with Nikon D5500 and almost all of the Nikon bodies. I think one of the brand new models works as advertised. I can't remember which one honestly, so if your planning on 23.98/24p with Nikon and external 200mbs recorder, be warned, only 1 or 2 Nikons may work... for the $2,000 for the Nikon body I would just get a BM Cinema or something. The Canon's I thought seemed to talk better to the Atomos, but most didn't have a clean HDMI output, so Canon isn't an easy slam dunk either in 23.98.
