HDV downconvert to SD Workflow FCP for dvd

I have a few questions about workflows and down converting. I use a xh a1 and all my footage is hdv and uploaded as 1080 hdv using final cut studio 2. If im correct it is not possible for me to put hdv footage onto a dvd unless it is a blue ray. So would I need to down convert it. If I dont need to down convert it and I did would it make a difference in quality with my end dvd product. If I should down convert can anyone tell me a good way to do this. Also can anybody give me a good workflow for creating the best quality dvd I can using my footage and final cut studio 2
