GL1 dropped frames
 

I recently bought a GL1 and so far I love it. The picture quality is far superior to my old single chipper. The only question is everytime I transfer video onto my computer it drops frames. It never did this when I used my single single chip panasonic.
The only thing I can think of is I recently partitioned my harddrive. Thats when the problems started to occur. I use Vegas 4. Could this be the reason for the dropped frames and if not what might be the problem.

There can be a lot of causes for this particular problem. Can you
please describe as detailed as possible your computer setup
(CPU/memory/harddisk(s). Especially any technical details on your
harddisk will help.

What Operating System are you using??

Which method did you use to bring your old 1-chipper footage
into your computer? Firewire? Also, if you hook this camera
back up, does it drop frames as well or not?

my computer specs.......

1.7 gig pentium 4
40 gig harddrive at 5400 rpm...partitioned 10 gig and 30 gig
512 DDR memory
windows XP PRO

i no longer have my old one chipper but i used the same method to get the DV onto my computer...firewire.

I may know what the problem is....I didn't know I was supposed to disable everything before I plugged my firewire in. I leave AIM instant messanger on, my anti-virus on, and a few other programs like kazaa, etc. I also heard the partition will cause the dropped frames. When I used the single chipper I DIDN'T have the partition..........

I will try to disable all these programs and get rid of the partition....and tell you the results.

Patitioning should improve your capturing, not decrease it. Make
sure Vegas is CAPTURING TO your SECOND partition. NOT the
partition where XP is on!!!

Running programs can have some really bad influence on your
system speed. Especially anti-virus software (because it is
checking a lot of things in the background). Disable as many
programs as possible, defragment your drives, have Vegas
capture on your 2nd partition and see what happens.

5400 rpm drive is not a really fast one, but it should be able
to give you 3.6 MB/s if the drive is pretty new.

thanks for the help...and I know about the harddrive...I actually have a 120 gig external firewire 7200 rpm with 8mb cache on the way. Hopefully when I get that things will work better.
