A new box for $1500 ` ???
 

I am planning on buying a new computer set tup
It will be used 50% of the time for basic video editing
and some photoshop use.
I have ~1500 to spend excluding the softs.

How does this list rate ?

Did you consider going with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU? It's about US$50 more, and most Adobe and Sony apps can take advantage of the extra cores.

MOUSE/KEYBOARD
Wireless is cool, but my experience is that wired is just plain reliable.

VIDEO MONITOR
Yes wide is useful, more screen real estate. What about 2x 19" Widescreen LCDs? Otherwise, I think 1 large 24" widescreen is better.

I too would go with two 19" widescreens. Two is better than one because you can use the second one for full-screen previews.

A fast temp disk is absolutely essential. Get a Raptor or something.

Below is the system I am going to have built based on massive research here and on the Edius and Adobe forums. Componets can be bought and assembled at mwave for about $1,430.00. Some of the componets you and I have selected are the simalar. However, I believe the P5K has a faster FSB and will scream with the Crucial PC2 8500 memory. BTW, I am no computer expert but am a fair researcher. I plan to also use esata external drives as storage needs increase and an existing sata DVD writer. Also, if you are going to use a realtime board by matrox or edius make sure your motherboard is on thier recommended list. From what I have heard the system below is fast enough not to need an add-on board for realtime playback on a second preview monitor. Of course that would be for SD or HDV video. I don't know about HD.

Mark, have you had that system built yet, and if so, how do you like the performance? Do I understand that mwave assembled it for you? Thanks.

I'd also be curious to hear from Mark or Shai on what they think of their set ups.

Also, any recommendations for systems out there for around $1,500? The software to be used would be Adobe on a P.C.

The use of the CPU would be for video editing.

Anybody have a favorite set up?

This was the system I ended up having mwave built for me. Works great. Substitued the abit MB for the Asus and have 2 -320GB drives in raid 0. Got the abit card due to good reputation with software raid. Asus is reported to have some problems.
