Missing audio after automatic transcoding in Encore
 

Hmmm, very mysterious.

All my clips seem fine in Premiere, a mix of stereo and mono. Clips with stereo audio have their audio imported to track 1 on the timeline, clips with mono audio are imported to audio track 4.

After exporting the project to avi, all audio seems fine...plays fine in wmp and vlc.

Previewing the avi in encore before transcoding also seems to work, after transcoding all audio except mp3s is missing in encore's preview, and on the finished dvd.

Please help...slowly...going...insane!

Somewhere in the cloudy past I had a similar issue... don't remember exactly what it was, but it was related to MP3/AC3 encoding - the version of Encore I had at that time was not supporting it or I had to buy a separate license for the AC3 encoding... sorry, it was a long time ago.

It looks like you have something similar going on, the WAV files off of the video are not converted by Encore. I would try a test: import a WAV file and some video with no audio and see how it works. Then replace the WAV with MP3 - if the wave file does not work but the MP3 does, then Encore is not doing the wave to MP3 encoding, so that's the part you need to troubleshoot. And until you solve the mistery, you can use a third party MP3 encoder just to be able to continue working... there are even some free MP3 encoders out there, Audacity is an excellent one.

DVDs may also have MPEG2 audio in addition to AC3, for compliance with really old players - make sure you player is capable of playing both types of audio. A neat little utility that may help you a lot is called G-Spot, it's free, just Google it. Load any audio or video file into that and it will tell you exactly ALL the characteristics of the file, what codecs are used, bitrate, etc.
