Capturing On Mac, Editing On Pc
can anyone suggest the best solution/ workflow ?
it's the conflict with QT & AVI files thats bugging me how does premier handle quicktime files? is there a particular preset in Final Cut that I should ideally be using when capturing DV tapes thank you for your help |
I would have to ask why you don't stay with one platform, as I would have thought it would be a better idea tan trying to use both in one workflow
|
its a long story :s
i would prefer to.. but need to trek on both platforms |
I've done this, but not with Premiere. Works fine in Vegas as long as both platforms have the codec that you are wrapping inside quicktime file. I use lossless PNG Quicktime files and it's no problem at all.

My favourite format is Quicktime Motion Jpeg A
It works a treat. I can't see any generational loss. I usually go from Premiere to Final Cut using this format, but I think I have also gone the other way at some stage. |
hi
how are you capturing the DV tapes with Final Cut? i'm currently capturing my SD tapes with the preset DV PAL anamorphic do you suggest i re-export the files? |
See this thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=124878
After trying all sorts of things, Jim found that iMovie files could be dropped directly into a Vegas timeline. However he was working on a Mac which also had Windows installed, so there might be some additional steps needed if moving to a dedicated Windows machine. |
Hi Boyd,
Just saw this thread so I took the iMovie captures and copied them to my shared network file server from the Mac, then went to the Windows machine (the real one, not the guest XP system I have running under VMware Fusion on the Mac), opened Vegas, and dragged the .mov clips to the Vegas timeline. It worked just fine. I do have QT Pro installed everywhere - not sure that if matters, but it might. By the way - more of a sound thing than a video thing, but I also have Sound Forge running under VMware on the Mac. I needed an M/S decoder so I tried to install my Waves package on the guest XP machine and it crapped out with some kind of protection violation error. I did install the Brainworx bx_control M/S plugin on the virtual machine and it works just fine My clients are here from Japan this week so not much fooling around time, but I'll poke at the Waves installation issue more when I get a chance. |
The short answer is: all decent NLEs work with QT files as long as the codec is installed.
Premiere Pro in particular is excellent for editing .mov files. |
Bitjazz's SHEER video codec is a very fine intermediate that works on both system platforms.
