Anyone tried a Centrino
 

Has anyone tried editing on a notebook with a Centrino. I've been looking at the hp nx7000 and Compaq x1010. Do then handle huge cpu loads well?

really no one has tired one???

I have an Acer TravelMate 800. I primarily do editing on my desktop workstation, but I have done some editing on this thing, in both Premiere and Vegas. It has a 1.3Ghz Pentium M (Centrino) which is supposed to equal the performance of a 2.4Ghz standard Intel.

It does perform really well though my onboard hard drive is a 5400RPM and I wish it was a 7200. But 7200 isn't all that common in laptops. This laptop has one firewire port and 4 USB 2.0 ports, so hooking up external drives is easy as pie.

I wouldn't be as concerned about the CPU as I would be about the other parts of the system you get, and the LCD screen quality and resolution.

So yes, my 1.3 Centrino is plenty good enough to edit with. I chose the Acer Travelmate because of its excellent price point, its large screen and resolution, the slightly curved keyboard, and its phenomenal battery life. Plus it has a CD/CDR/DVD ROM, S-Video out, and is very thin and attractive, and runs pretty cool for a laptop.

The only thing I would change about it is the speed of the hard drive, but that's probably mostly only because I know it's a 5400 and psychologically that annoys me ;0.

Also, I bought is several months ago. I think prices have dropped so I'd go for the 1.5 now if I was getting it now.
