stupid pc editing questions

Hey guy I'm new to pc editing. I'm shopping around for a pc. Now let me get this straight: Camera to pc via firewire. Cut then output only to a dvd. Which means I'll need a DVD burner? What do they mean when the film house wants the master for film transfer. Can I record from the pc to dv tape after I cut it..
I can't go back to DV tape.... Right
Thanks in advance...
Neil

You can go back to dv tape. It's usually just a matter of plugging the firewire in, and exporting to tape. I'm not up on DVD, so I can't help you there. The only thing that comes to mind, is you are losing quality when you encode it to mpeg.

As far as the master tape, it depends on which place you go to. I believe most can accept dv or mini dv.

If the film house wants a master let THEM explain what they want
and how they want it. They might accept a DV tape or harddisk
with DV on it.

Thanks guys for the info. I just don't have the money right now fro a dv burner. I'm shooting soon, with intent to transfer one day(pipe dream) so I don't want to limit my options. Thanks again guys...

pc to camera?

Hey guys, when I export to from pc, do I need a dv recorder or does it got to the camera and I can record it from there?
Thanks

I'm not sure what program you'll be using, but when you export it into the cam, it should- SHOULD- start recording. You may have to set the camera to VCR mode and press record.

Some PAL cameras have their inputs disabled. Otherwise you should be able to print your finished project onto DV tape.
