NLE VHS export stutter- bad video card fan?

Shortly after upgrading to Premiere 6.5 I began to see my video exports to tape freeze occasionally, for 5 to 10 seconds or more and then continue. I suspected fragmentation and defragging helped but now I think it only seemed to be the solution. I recently tried the probe tool on my Asus v7700 Ti video card and found the fan not functioning. I could restart it with compressed air but it would slow and stop in short order. Now I'm wondering if overheating could cause the data stream to freeze. The other variable is that I'm pulling the DV stream from an external LaCie firewire drive. I suppose the drive could be involved, but I didn't have the problem with 6.02 and I didn't hear the case noise that first caused me to check the fans. Despite being a PC enthusiast for nine years now, I realize I don't know how a vid card cooling problem would show itself.

Did you get the latest patch? It solves a problem similar to what you describe.

2- If you video card is overheating (bad!) then you will get graphics glitches (seen that). An overheated card might also cause your system to crash. Some of the old video cards are cool enough to be passively cooled (with a heat sink) so that *might* explain why your card still works.

Thanks, Glen. I'm not aware that there is a patch for 6.5 but revisiting Adobe support did give me a couple of tweaks that were worth the time.
