Jumper setting for two AO6's in one computer?
 

I am installing two Pioneer AO6 DVD recorders in my computer. I have two hard drives (both 120Gig) already installed.

My question is how do I set the jumpers jfor the two AO6's.
Do I set one as master and one as slave or leave them as CS (Cable select) or what?

I'm sure that someone must have the same setup and been throught he process.

Cable select is supposed to make life easier for you so you don't have to mess around with master/slace. The M/S thing is determined by which drive is one the very end of the IDE ribbon I think. You can do things manually too and set one to master and one to slave.

As long as you don't confuse them in Windows it should be ok.

I had a lot of trouble with the Pioneer A04 when trying to mix it with two hard drives and an existing DVD-ROM. It seemed to want to be master of its own bus and didn't like other devices, be they hard drives or another DVD-ROM on its bus. So, when I bought a new hard drive with a PCI dual bus IDE controller, I moved the 2nd DVD-ROM onto that. I would predict that your A06's want to be the bus masters, so try installing them on separate bus cables with any hard drives as slave devices.

I took your advice and installed them both with the jumpers set to CS.

My system running XP had no problem identifying them both as CD-DVD. One minor problem is the icon on the 'my computer' page for one of the DVD's says it is a CD and not DVD but in the properties area it correctly id's it as a DVD. I can play DVD movies on both units. Have not tried to record yet.

Sorry to disagree with you but it's generally not a good idea to put optical drives and HDDs on the same bus as the slower optical drives will slow down the faster HDDs.

First try the DVD drives in cable select and make sure thay are on the secondary bus and the HDDs are on the primary. If that doesn't work then set the DVD drive at the end of the cable to master and the one in the middle to slave. I have a similar set-up with my system but with Sony CD burners and it works fine. Also make sure that DMA is enabled in the BIOS for all the drives and check the Device Manager>IDE Controller>Properties>Advanced tab to see if DMA if available is selected
