good sound card
 

what is a good sound card for the dvstorm. Please inform me as to which ones works best.

This is like asking which car is best, and how can we answer
that without knowing what situation you are in?

To name just a few things that you at least need to know before
you can even start to answer that question:

- budget
- operating system
- how many channels? (only stereo or 6 channel surround?)
- needed quality
- phantom power support for microphones
- GSIF/ASIO/DirectX compatible
- what are you gonna use it for
- MIDI support

etc.... give us as much information as possible! You can buy
soundcards for $10 or something throught thousands of dollars.

These soundcards are mostly utilize by electronic musicians

A> Delta 44

B> Echo Mia

C> Delta 66

They are all capable to create a high quality audio sound and all are compatible with pcrecording softwares such as reason by propellerheads -logic audio platinum-and cubase.

A good friend of mine has a "professional" card with drivers
that totally suck under XP. This is a thing to be careful about!
Some special hardware manufacturers have great trouble
writing good drivers, especially for windows 2000 and windows
XP!! (due to the increased difficulty of writing the drivers under
these operating systems). Since we all (PC people) will be
using these operating systems solely in the future (Microsoft
has dropped win9x/me support), which is better anyway for
us (better file protection against corruption if your using NTFS
to name one) you better look good into this!

I will just be using the sound card for dvstorm. For video editing and other home video projects.
I do not have the budget for the high end card. All I want is a card that has proven compatibitity with DVstorm. Without breaking the bank.
It could be a high end, very expensive sound card but if it sucks with DVstorm then whats the use?
All I want to do is to bring in some videos using Dvstorm - edit- output it to a tape.

In that case, you don't need any additional sound card. The DVStorm comes built in with sound capability.

The Storm SE has the Breakout box which does have good audio inputs. Being mounted in the front, it makes things so nice. The audio capture software o.k. I'll take Sound Forge anyday.

I also have the Creative Audigy Platinum, that has a Breakout box as well, along with 1/4" jack, spdif and optical I/O. The software is so-so, but even this consumer card makes a difference in audio capture, more than the Storm card can.

Together, they work just fine, and produce a high quality audio.

I just intergrated the dvstorm se plus in to my dual athlon mp you are right it does have an intergrated in and out for audio. Works like a charm, very stable I still have a soundblaster live installed in my system though. A card that I happened to have extra from my closet.

Do you guys think I should take it out since its not needed for editing video? You know wasted resources.

I also have a audigy card in my other computer too. This one I use for MP3 and audio. I was planning to process audio in this machine and transfer the files to the other machine just for video editing, graphics and effects.

Leave the Sound Blaster Live! card in, unless it gives you problems. It's always nice to have a system sound card to hear audio when you're not using the DVStorm.

I guess you are right Robert. As the saying goes if its not broken don't fix it.
