is S-Video transfers better than regular RCA cables?

i have a tape that has been dubbed using regular RCA cables. i plan to digitize the tape onto DVD, will hooking your VCR's S-Video output make the image better?

Hi Yi Fong Yu,

Being that you originally recorded via RCA and you wish to output via s-video It should make it slightly better, but you will probably not notice any differences, unless you look under a microscope.

Reason being that rather than sending the signal down the RCA, which is a mixed signal, you'll be splitting it off in to luminance and chroma (Y/C), which should give a slightly better picture.

So, the quick answer is; the DVD quality should not be any worse than your dubbed VHS.

cheers,

I want to add that if you can go s-video then do it with s-video.
This will let a lot less external influences work on the signal. In
your case it will probably don't matter much, but go with the best
connection you have!

Sometimes the circuits for the RCA connectors are a lot worse than the S-Video ones.
