Can someone explain Mojo?
 

I'm an elementary school teacher and video hobbyist. I create films for the Board of Ed demonstrating things like student rigor, blanaced literacy, and workshop models. Don't get the edubabble? Don't worry about it! I just want you to know that I am limited in my knowledge of DV and what my particualr situation is.

My question is in regards to Mojo. What is this product? I've read that it converts multimedia such as analog to dv, allows for various frame rates to work together, allows for a user to see his output on an analog monitor in real time, and speeds up rendering. This last point is what interests me in the product. I hate rendering! It kills my creative flow. Is this product going to make more effects and transitions available in real time? Will it reduce render times? When I go to the Avid site, their consumer Quicktime film makes it seem as if you just click a button and on you go to your next effect. I know, from this forum alone, this is not the case. So, can anyone explain this product in very simple terms? I, not my school, will purchase this (I don't qualify for the ed price.) Will it speed up renders? To what level? I work strictly with DV. Will I benefit from the investment regarding my productivity? Will I have to get a PC card with Firewire for my external hard drive? I heard there is a bus conflict.

I work on an Apple 17" Powerbook (OS 10.3) with 1Gb Processor and 1024 Ram. Shoot with a GL2 (in case this matters).

Yes, it will speed things up.

Long answer,

Read all the specs on avids site and make sure your system is up to speed. There are specific configurations approved for use with Mojo.

Mojo is both a blessing and a curse. If you use an Avid approved system you're probably good to go. If on the other hand you have a home built system, you may be in for a rude awakening. This product has pretty tight specs in order to do all the things it says it will.
