Dvhstool and preview troubles

I installed dvhstool to use with my jvc DH30000U deck. My basic intent is to store finished edits onto dvhs tapes (jvc brand). But when I go to the preview file I get a message that says "failed to setup preview graph. Please ensure that you have all the required components and have selected a video decoder, audio decoder, and audio render from the settings dialog box." In settings I have selected elecard mpeg2 video decoder, moonlight odia dekoda for audio decoder, and I have tried both default direct sound device and waveout device for audio render without any luck. I have a athlon64 with 1 gb ram, plenty of hd space, and xp home. What am I doing wrong...Help!

Also as a separate question can someone point me to a tutorial for dvhstool?

Thanks
