What type of pc/software do you recommend?

I am looking to build a new PC for DV editing. I am getting into the event videography business. I can't decide whether to just use my existing amd 3000+, 2gb ram, 9800 pro and add a matrox rtx100 card and some more storage space or to build a new computer.

Will the above config work well for dv editing? If not what would you recommend?

I am going to be filming using a pd170.

I was thinking of using the adobe software that comes with the matrox rtx100 card.

You didn't mention how much storage you have, but I would say your system is more than adequate.

I will be buying 500gb of external HDD space. Is there a huge difference between my AMD machine and a new dual processor setup?

Also...Does the Matrox RT100 package offer 100% RT editing? Waiting for renders is a pain...

Do I need the Matrox card?

Hi Paul,

Your computer setup should be fine for running Premiere and an RTX100.

You do not really need an RTX100 as most of the stuff in PP is real-time. However what you do get if you go for an RTX100 is:

Real-time MPEG 2IBP import and export
BITC (Burned in time code)
analogue in and out
lots of real time effects...

Check this document out:
http://www.matrox.com/video/products...re_summary.pdf

Check this page for the RTX 100 system requirements:
http://www.matrox.com/video/support/...o/rec/home.cfm

I would suggest to try and get a demo with the RTX 100 and download the tryout for PP from adobes website.

cheers,

What Ed said.

You have a great system for it. You could spend more, but the gain would not knock your socks off. As mentioned, throw in HD space. 1 hour of tape is about 13GB. Edit, render, and make a DVD and you have double it. I had one project run to about 100GB and I was seriously and aggressively economizing on space. It could have used 200GB easily. It you are working on more than one at a time, it racks up.

Is Premiere Pro as robust as Final Cut Pro?

Ed Smith June 30th, 2004 02:57 AM

Paul,

Thats very subjective...

For a start they both run on different platforms.

Some say running on a Mac is faster and less prone to crashes, where as others will disagree. They both have pros and cons.

Its a bit like comparing apple and pears...

Please do not turn this thread into a platform war.

Cheers,
