New NLE system

I am going to start doing some dv editing. Basically most of the work is going to be footage of interviews, local documentaries, conferences etc.

I have a P4 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, Geforce 4 Ti4600. My problem is what type of nle system should i buy from the following:

1) Matrox RTX100 Extreme

2) Avid Xpress Pro

3) or change to mac and buy a G5 + Final Cut Pro 4

Thanks.

Avid also runs on Mac, so if you are looking for a Mac in particular keep that in mind.

Personally, it depends on what you'll be doing in the future.

If your planning on doing broadcasting work then I tend to think Avid would be a good way to go. You should also look at Avid Mojo which gives you some real time features.

The Mac route can be very expensive in the long run in terms of upgrading and maintenence. But, it's hardware is by far very quick for video without any accelleration boards.

Have you also considered going with Pinnacle's Liquid Edition Pro? Apparently, their accelerator board can enable you to do eight layers of video and effects in real time.

Just a few thoughts...
