Question about all of this
 

What exactly is non linear editing? I was looking at Canopus and Matrox and they kept metioning Adobe software. Why is this? Do these programs modify Adobe or what is all of this? thanks for your answers.

Linear editing is when you assemble everything in a linear fashion, one after another. An example would be 2 VHS decks (hit play on one, record on the other).

Non-linear editing: Generally this refers to a computer editing program. You can make edits however you want, access any point in your footage instantaneously, and change edits without having to re-assemble other edits.

Non-linear editing refer to computer editing programs basically.

2- Canopus and Matrox make hardware acceleration cards for Adobe Premiere. This probably explains why they mention Adobe a lot.

Glenn has a good explenation. I just wanted to add:

- Adobe is the name of a company (like Matrox and Canopus) -> www.adobe.com. They have products like Photoshop and Premiere
- As Glenn pointed out they where probably talking about hardware acceleration cards. These almost always can ONLY be used with Adobe Premiere and no other NLE.
