Quality Loss With AVI?

If I cut a long AVI file into shorter segments so that I can archive the data on DVD, and export using Procoder's Microsoft DV setting, while there be any quality loss? I'm not going to render or modify the clips in any way before export.

no, there can't be any quality loss if the footage has not been re-rendered.
