Is there a speed difference editing video using Premiere Pro 1.5 on a Windows XP Home or Pro?

No, I believe the only sole difference is the amount of networking capabilities.

Does your machine have dual prossesors?

I don't think Home works with Hyperthreading either (Which is effectively seen as two processors). Anyone confirm this?

I had thought so, but Glenn C. in this thread said that HOME does support hyperthreading, just not multiple physical processors:

Of course, it also depends on your computer hardware, including processor and motherboard, being hyperthreading-capable.

I believe Home supports hyperthreading. I run XP Pro though, so I can't check.

The one useful thing about XP Pro for me is the remote desktop feature. I can remotely connect to my home computer from Ryerson university computers, which do NOT allow you to install ultraVNC (in many ways better, but requires client installation or java-enabled browser). Remote desktop also works better for dual monitors as it won't screw up your icons.

Otherwise I don't think XP Pro is a big deal. It lets you have networks >10 computers and has better foreign language support and a few other minor things. It does support dual processors... but who has those? Get a Matrox RTX.100 first.

i also run hyperthreading with xp home.

there are issues with logging in as the administrator in xp home, that make it a pia from an admin point of view... specifically, i believe that the administrator account is not as accessible as it is with xp pro, i.e., administrator is not one of the accounts that you can switch to, like you can with xp pro.

You can give any account on XP (home or pro) administrator's rights.

If you have an account named "Administrator" on your machine I highly reccomend you rename it; Its step one to hacking your machine.

(and of course password protect it, but that goes without saying)
