Frame Based Footage
 

After shooting some footage in the Frame mode, and capturing it from firewire to PC, I was wondering how you can tell what the resulting file is shot in. That is, if I have the AVI on my pc, how do I know it's frame-based and not Normal based if I have many AVIs and some are Normal and some are Frame? Help appreciated.

You should treat footage shot in Frame mode as progressive footage, as opposed to interlaced footage.

Generally you don't have to touch anything. When encoding the clips for something else, you can set the encoder to treat the footage as interlaced or progressive.

Interlaced has to do with the way video is normally captured. 2 fields are captured for every frame, and there are 29.97 frames per second for NTSC. Sorry I don't know any links that explain this well.

What I meant was, when the Frame-shot Avi file is captured on your pc, how can you tell it is Frame-shot (if you forget)-

You look for the "venetian blind" effect on moving objects or panning shots. Interlaced footage will show this, progressive or frame mode footage will not. 24p footage (in a 30/29.97 frames per second timeline) will show this, but not on all frames.
