virtual memory

I did a search but no results came back. so I'm asking. Are you suppose to set virtual memory to a specific size when editing from premire or any editing applications? If so then please tell me how to set my virtual memory if I have one gig of ram? Do I place it on the c:/ drive or on another drive? Is it really neccessary? Thanks.

Charles,

Go to http://www.videoguys.com/WinXP.html and follow the tips. It will guide you thru all the setup parameters to optimise your system.

Mark

Thanks Mark. I had already been there several years ago and had downloaded all the tweaks. I'm in the process now but one part of the tweak where he mentions virtual memory is still unclear. He says: having 'RAM x 2' would be better to use with premiere. what does he mean. As I said I have 1 gig ram. How would this translate?

Thanks. I feel dump asking but I want to be sure.

Charles,

I re-read the instructions and it is confusing. I only have 512MB of memory and run Premiere 6.5 so I'll tell you how I am set up.

- Performance setting processor scheduling "adjusted for best perf. of programs"
- Memory usage ""adjusted for best perf. of programs"
- Virtual memory as paging file 766MB located on drive other than C. This is important that it not be on the same drive as your system drive.
- Make sure no unnecessary programs are running in the background...very important.

Regards,

Mark
