timecode in avi files?

anyone know of software that will rewrite an avi file
and embed user selectable timecode into that file?
using ppro v1.5. i have some files made from svhs
tapes. they have a window burn but that's all. i want to
embed timecode into the video stream (like dvcam might)
so that it will be readable by ppro. when i've tried the
simpler solution of assigning 'premiere timecode' to the
files premiere hasn't recognized it. this prompts me to
look for a more fundamental solution - embedding.
'premiere timecode' basically is just a start number for
the file, not really embedded. also, if i can embed the
timecode it would be readable by other apps.

thanks,
george

Hello George and welcome aboard (H)DVInfo.net!

As far as I know the AVI container format has no native support
for timecode. However, the DV(cam) codec has a substream for
timecode indeed.

What happens if you export the timeline as a DV AVI, does it
get timecode? In theory it should, if not you may need to look for
a DV timecode (re)writer (if such a thing exists).

I seem to remember various utilities that let you change/set the timecode reference in a DV.avi file ... but the only one I know for sure does this costs a few dollars & can be found here:
http://www.baobab.net/softcs.htm
It is the 2nd program in the list.

If I were to continue searching I'd look at utilities that know how to poke their way around the avi structure ...
