batch capture question
I did a shoot two weeks ago, for which I used my 2 Canon XL1's and Keith Loh's XL1s. When I captured everything into Vegas video (using the same camera as a deck for all the tapes), it sorted everything from the 2 older XL1's into seperate clips for each take, but basicaly dumped everything from the XL1s into one single huge file.
Anyone know why? |
Not exactly, but does the Xl1 reset the timecode whenever you start and stop recording? I'm thinking that if the xl1s is like my Xm2, then the timecode is kept in tact if you stop and start again and the NLE might see this as continuous and just assume it's one shot....Then again I could be WAY off base here! :)

Was the date/time set on the XL-1s? Vegas breaks clips based on changes to the date/time. If the date/time is not set, it will give you one huge file instead of several smaller files.

When you say "used the same camera as a deck" you mean the same camera that the footage was taken on, or you swapped tapes shot on one camera to another?
It shouldn't really matter, but just for clarification. I sounds as if the camera wasn't writing the datacode correctly or something (not knowing too much about how DV scenes are detected myself). I'd try capturing from the original shooting camera and see if it makes a difference. It's a bit of a hassle, but you could also try doing the capture with Scenalyzer Live (or run the old free Scenalyzer on the already captured footage) and see if Scenalyzer treats the scenes differently. http://www.scenalyzer.com You could also post in the Sonic Foundry forums directly. There are some pretty helpful guys there who know SoFo software backwards and forwards, and often times you'll get a reply from a SoFo employee. http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/default.asp |
Brian, I meant the tapes came from all three cameras, but I only captured them from the same XL1.
I think Edward solved this mystery though. I'm pretty sure when I checked out Keith's XL1s that the little time/date thing was blinking, and I think I remember him saying he didn't have a date battery in it! Congrats Edward, you win the noPrize! Keith, get a battery already! ;) |
He'll be able to afford one once you pay the rental rate on his XL1s.

Fortunately, in Canadian dollars, the rental rate on an XL1s translates into a stick of gum and a kick in the pants. :)
