need to make some music, baby

I've been trying to find the right clip of music for a short trailer, for free, but can't. I have someone that will write the music for me, for a decent price. However, my fiancee has some musical talent (I have none), and offered to try producing it for me.

So I need some music making software. Something full featured, but easy to learn/use.

Suggestions?

Sonic Foundry Acid http://www.sonicfoundry.com
Ableton Live http://www.ableton.com

As well as various others. Acid tops most (pc users) lists.

For examples of what Acid is capable of, check out http://www.acidplanet.com. Sonic Foundry has a demo version available for download. (and so does Ableton of Live)

As much as I like and use Acid Pro, Cakewalk Plasma also is an excellent loop based software program. It retails for less than 50.00 US street and supports DXI and midi. The version I have also includes Fruity Loops express. It also reads Acidized wave files (loops). I doesn't do everything Acid does, but it does alot for 50.00.

http://www.cakewalk.com select consumer menu
http://www.www.acidplanet.com had free loops for download

best is to go to www.acidplanet, search around and download some of the music, (literally thousands of free tunes), find one you like, contact the author and work something out. You will be surprised at how many would just like the exposure.

Wasn't there a free version out of ProTools as well, called
ProTools Lite or something? Might be worth checking out...

Great advice guys. Thanks!
I'm going to do a roundup of the demo's trial versions this weekend and see which suits us best.

Hopefully I can find some free loops to use. That'd be great too.
