New to editing.....help!

I'm about to buy a laptop and editing software. I have about (uk) £2000 to spend but have NO idea where to start!?
Can anyone recommend a package? Not even sure if I want PC or Mac?

I'll be using it to edit short films upto about 30 mins and don't really need anything to advanced.

Thanks.

I'd figure out what software I want to use first and then buy the corresponding machine. For example, if you want to run Vegas, you MUST buy a PC. If you want to run FCP, you MUST buy a Mac.

Dell, I think, has a few packages that are set up with Premiere. There are also others that sell turn key systems. If you aren't sure of what you are doing, this would be the best route for you. Pick up a video magazine, and browse their many ads.
