Thumbnail preview in Windows Explorer

Hi, please could you help me ?
I dont' know why I cannot see the thumbnails of HD and HDV clips in Windows Explorer folder, I can see their thumbnails only in Media Manager or Project Media using Sony Vegas Pro 10.
In Explorer folder I can see the preview only for DV clips.
Which could be the problem ?
Please could you give me your suggestions ?
Many thanks in advance.

Alberto

Which Windows version? Windows 7 has those, Windows XP doesn't.

many thanks for your reply.
I cannot see the thumbnails both in Windows XP Professional and Windows 7 64 bit.

I don't see thumbnails on my window 7 64 bit either. There is a button on the upper right side of windows explorer that lets you open a preview window so you can see the clip when you click on it.

Click on the Tools menu in a window. Select Folder Options. Select the View tab.

Deselect "Always show icons, never thumbnails".

This will slow things up on a slow computer, but will be OK for a capable system.

Note that you cannot display thumbnails for Matrox AVIs, and possibly other proprietory file types. It works for .mpg, .m2v, etc.

I tried your suggestions but it isstill impossible to see the thumbnails of HD and HDV clips.
There are no problems with DV clips.
This thing is very frustrating, I dont know what to do

Re: Thumbnail preview in Windows Explorer

For what kind of files are you trying to display thumbnails?

W7 will display thumbnails for .m2v, .avi (NOT Matrox!), and .mpeg.

You will not get a thumbnail with any flavour of .m4v.

As I said in my earlier post it is probable that windows cannot display thumbnails for other propretory file formats.

I'm trying to see the thumbnails of the clips:

HD : MXF - Mpeg 2 Long-Gop 4:2:2 50 Mbs - 1280x720 50p - from Canon XF100
HDV - 1440x1080 25p - from Canon HV40

OK, but what are the files on your hard drive? Are they .avi, or .mpeg?

The files I get when I capture HDV from a Canon HV30 using Premiere CS5 are .mpeg and they show thumbnails when I make the setting I describe.

I have no knowledge of Vegas, but it is possible that the captured files are in a proprietory wrapper format which Windows cannot display.

GSpot should tell you what the files are.

The files are Mpeg and I see their preview in Project Manager of Sony Vegas Pro.
What I cannot see is the preview of thumbnails in the folder of Windows explorer where they are

Re: Thumbnail preview in Windows Explorer

This is completely maddening.

As has been stated, in Sony Vegas 11 I can see the Media Content in Vegas Project Manager in the Thumbnails; I can see the same in Vegas Media Manager but I can't see the Media content in a Thumbnail in Sony Vegas Explorer OR Microsoft Explorer.

I have applied the suggestion above and reapplied, but to no avail.

Bizarre,

Grazie
