Sp2 fresh install...fresh problem acquisition

Hi All !

I have just installed the SP2 of win XP and my acquisition (capture1394) is very slow and i lost a lot of frame ... I know that there is a remedy to correct the problem but which and where is the solution?
Thanks

Hi Dan,

Yesterday I was shopping for PCI IEEE 1394 cards and noticed ADS has a SP2 patch for at least one of their drivers. So maybe SP2 does some funky IEEE 1394 or PCI layer stuff that breaks the capture card drivers. Check out your card manufacturer's website, eh?

Keep on Truckin',

I don't think SP2 has anything to do with it. I have installed SP2 both on my laptop and my desktop - and both have firewire. I have never had any issues.

It does cause problems for some systems:

"After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, some 1394 devices (such as digital cameras that use S400 speed) may not perform as expected. Install this update to help prevent this issue. After you install this update, you will have to restart your computer."

Patch here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

(I had to remove and reinstall my firewire card as well ,but after continuing intermittent problems I finally moved back to SP1a on my capture system. )

Don't hurry to patch! Read well and think first!

Here is Quote for the problem that the MS patch addresses:

SYMPTOMS
After you update your computer to Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the performance of your 1394a or 1394b FireWire devices may be greatly decreased. A digital camera that uses S400 speed is an example of such a device.
Back to the top Back to the top
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you connect a 1394a or 1394b FireWire device to a 1394b port. This problem occurs because Windows XP SP2 changes 1394b ports to S100 speed when you upgrade.

Do you read my lips? It is if you have 1394b type ports on your system. Do you have such?
